China adds 3.3 GW of solar in six months

China added 3.3 GW of new solar capacity in the first half of the year, Reuters reported yesterday.
The impressive figure will keep China on track to eclipse Europe as the world's solar power this year but leaves the authorities in Beijing with some way to go to hit their stated ambition of adding 13 GW of new solar power generation by the end of the year.
The People's Republic wants the renewables share of energy generation to rise from the 9.8% it was at the end of 2013 to 10.7% by the end of the year, Reuters reported, quoting the country's national energy administration.
The Chinese government is pushing hard on renewables as its, chiefly urban dwelling, burgeoning middle class reacts against the economic expansion that has badly polluted the nation's air, water and soil.
